Conservation districts, or “CDs,” connect people with voluntary actions that protect the health of our air, water, soil, habitats, and farmland.
As community-based hubs for natural resource expertise and funding, CDs are led and staffed by locals who understand the landscapes and communities they serve. Every county in Washington’s 39 counties is represented by at least one conservation district.
Conservation district services vary by region. Reach out to your local conservation district to explore what resources are available to you.
Conservation districts may provide:
- Services that are non-regulatory and customized to support local people, properties, and natural resources.
- Property-specific plans to help you achieve your conservation and land use goals.
- Grant funding and affordable services to support actions that improve the health of our water, soil, air, landscapes, and habitats.
- Technical expertise for planning, permitting, and project construction.
Conservation district programs and services vary. Examples of conservation district services include:
- Habitat restoration and enhancement
- Livestock and nutrient management
- Soil, forest, and rangeland health
- Natural disaster preparedness and recovery
- Irrigation water management
- Stormwater management
- Environmental education
- Urban agriculture
